This is the kind of music that WPGU 107.1 FM in Champaign loves to play a lot of, which is fine, but since their play list has become a bit repetitive and restrictive, this is the type of band that should be on their airwaves, but never seems to find itself there. Why? Narrow scope I would guess, which is a shame cause this would fit in just fine with their musical tastes, and I can see this band becoming a bit of a toast with the students at the University of Illinois. Then again, I’m not really the target age for that station (which I do enjoy despite their choker hold on the play list), and I might be way off base. First shot out, I don’t think I am.

They call this reggae tinged, which is what I guess you would call 311 too, but I don’t feel like that’s an accurate flavoring. Oh, it’s an ingredient but I don’t feel like it’s the whole gumbo. Yeah, I think if you like 311 you are going to enjoy this band. The only problem I see with this band not becoming more known is that the internet is clogged with music and it’s sometimes just a game of crap’s if you win out or not.

I can see this band at summer camp, which would be a perfect showcase for them, getting them in front of some similar type bands/artists and some very receptive fans. There is no way with this type of mellow, reggae-rock that Passafire plays that they shouldn’t be able to make a nice living. Groundbreaking? No, but it’s enjoyable music. So don’t put your whole head into it, just enjoy it and drift along.
